Strength for Life, Not Just the Gym!!

Hi Friends!!


Yesterday’s beautiful weather inspired me to tackle some spring cleanup - a little firewood relocation mission. I had been way too ambitious about how much we’d burn in the fireplace this winter (whoops!), so I spent about an hour moving logs from the front deck to the side, and then to the lean-to fire pit.



As I worked, I noticed something interesting - my right leg was doing lots of the work. And since I spend so much time coaching others on movement and form, I caught myself and made some adjustments. That’s when it became a bit more fun!



I grabbed a big chunk of wood and turned it into a mini strength sesh - single-leg deadlifts into a shoulder press. This little game turned into a reminder of why I train the way I do. It’s not about “mirror muscles.” It’s about moving through life strong, fit, flexible, and capable.



I felt that strength on the ski slopes a few weeks ago, when higher elevation didn’t slow me down. And I felt it again yesterday at Home Depot, when I loaded a 50-pound bag of potting soil into my cart without hesitation. No need for help, thank you very much!😉 I just engaged my core, hit a goblet squat, a deadlift, a bent-over row, a bicep curl, a hip hinge, and a controlled plank-lower to get that puppy in the cart.



That control, that ability - it’s built in training, and it directly translates to real life.



So let’s keep this train rolling. Let’s pick up the heavy weights, move with intention, and train for life. Because when we do, we flow through with strength, endurance, good mechanics, and - most importantly - a happy, resilient body.
