Eat Less Sugar!
Hey team!
This week, we’ve been discussing the hormones leptin and insulin in one of my courses and their roles in regulating hunger and fat storage. Poor diet choices and overeating lead to insulin resistance, which messes up our hunger signals and energy storage, creating a feedback loop that promotes more weight gain.
Here's a quick breakdown:
Insulin Resistance: Eating too much sugar and carbs makes our bodies resistant to insulin, which promotes fat storage and makes it harder to burn fat.
Leptin Resistance: Leptin tells our brain to stop eating when we’re full. In people with obesity, leptin resistance occurs, so the brain never gets the "stop eating" signal, leading to overeating.
This creates a vicious cycle where more fat storage leads to more insulin resistance, which worsens leptin resistance, resulting in continuous hunger and more weight gain.
How to fix this?
Cut down on sugar and increase fiber.
Avoid processed foods and sugary drinks.
Move your body daily and eat more omega-3 fatty acids.
Shop the edges of the store and avoid shopping when hungry.
Steer clear of trans fats and products with sugar as one of the first three ingredients. Think of labels as warning signs.
To improve health and combat obesity, we need to reduce sugar intake and focus on whole, unprocessed foods! Kk.
